ISO 9001 Sub-contractor
As with any tanks & vessels fabrication there is little risk to the client if the design is specified and a fully certified ISO 9001 Sub-contractor is used. Risk is often highest at tender stage when information is limited, and design is yet to be undertaken.
The client in these instances will rely upon the experience of the sub-contractor to determine wall thickness, stiffener bracings and supporting structures etc.
Experience does not entirely mitigate the risk of a tendered price being significantly understated when compared to a fully designed tank supported by calculation.
Risk Mitigation
The issue then becomes a risk to client because of higher costs or the sub-contractor refusing to honour the tendered price. Not a position either party wish to be in.
Risk is further impacted when one considers factors affecting tank design such as rectangular or circular construction, open or fully enclosed, sectional, bonded, pressurised or elevated gravity fed, heated, carbon steel or austenitic stainless steels.
